1) Fitz Henry Lane, (born Nathaniel Rogers Lane), born in Gloucester, Massachusetts on December 19, 1804 to August 14, 1865 (aged 60), was an American painter and printmaker of Luminism.

2) His father was a sail-maker. From the time of his birth, Lane was exposed to the sea and maritime life, a factor that obviously had a great impact on his later choice of subject matter.
