Senior Sergeant Yevheniy Kovalov, nicknamed Kundil, passed away in a hospital on March 5, 2023, due to severe injuries. He was 50 years old. He was caught in enemy artillery shelling during the battle for the city of Avdiivka in Donetsk region, and his injuries were too severe.

Yevheniy was originally from the village of Chervonohryhorivka in Dnipropetrovsk region. He studied at Zaporizhzhia Vocational-Technical School No. 20 and obtained a profession as a control and instrumentation fitter. In peacetime, he worked for 20 years as an underground locksmith at the Manganese Mining and Processing Plant in Manganese. He was interested in radio electronics.

During the full-scale war, Yevheniy defended his homeland as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. From April 11, 2022, he served in the 53rd separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Volodymyr Monomakh. He held the position of senior sapper in the engineering and sapper platoon.

“He was strong, brave, and talented. The best son, husband, and father, a loyal friend. He had many plans and dreams for the future. He wanted to retire and tinker in the garden, pursue his hobby of radio electronics in his free time, and see his grandchildren,” said the wife of the fallen defender.

Yevheniy was buried in his hometown.

At home, he was awaited by his mother Valentyna, wife Tetiana, son Vladyslav, and daughter Daria.
