Yuriy Maievsky, a 36-year-old fighter known as “Povodyr” (“Guide”), tragically passed away on March 17, 2023, near the village of Vodyane in Donetsk Oblast. While carrying out his combat duties, the warrior suffered a fatal injury due to enemy artillery shelling.
Yuriy hailed from the city of Khmelnytskyi. He attended School No. 18. At the age of 10, he joined “Plast,” an organization that nurtures conscious individuals who contribute to their own development and to Ukraine. After school, he studied at Khmelnytskyi National University, where he obtained two specialties: “Accounting and Audit” and “Chemical and Environmental Control and Production Management.” He excellently mastered the profession of a chemical engineer. Since 2008, he worked at “Ekotest” LLC. Since 2019, he served as the chief of purification facilities at “PROTEIN INVEST” LLC. In his free time, he enjoyed reading books, especially historical ones.
From the first days of the full-scale invasion, Yuriy, despite lacking military experience, decided to defend his homeland. Initially, he served in the volunteer formation “Avangard.” In August 2022, he joined the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and became a fighter in the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Volodymyr Monomakh.
“My beloved is a Hero, a soldier of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, brave, courageous, valiant, a true patriot of his state. Yurchyk was the best husband, father, and friend, kind, sensitive, honest, sincere, fair, a man of his word and deed. His comrades called him ‘mom’ because he cared for everyone,” shared Nataliya Maievskaya.
The defender was laid to rest at the Alley of Glory in the Rakove district of his hometown.
At home, Yuriy’s wife and son awaited him. At the time of his death, his son was 4 years old.
