Soldier Yuriy Kovalchuk, call sign Stolyar, lost his life on June 23, 2023, in battle with occupiers near the village of Ivanivske in Donetsk Oblast. The defender was 30 years old.

Yuriy was born in the village of Verben in Rivne Oblast. He graduated from Demidivske Vocational School No. 25. Married, he lived with his family in the village of Peremil in Volyn Oblast. He worked on a poultry farm and dedicated his free time to his family.

During the full-scale Russian invasion on May 2, 2023, Yuriy was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 80th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade as a rifleman in the service detachment.

“My husband and the father of our beautiful seven-year-old daughter was devoted to the military oath of allegiance to the Ukrainian people. Courageously fulfilling his military duty, he perished in battle for Ukraine, its freedom, and independence,” wrote Olena Kovalchuk.

The military was laid to rest in his native village in Rivne Oblast.

Yuriy is survived by his mother, Halyna, wife Olena, daughter Viktoriya, sisters Olga and Maria, and brother Ivan.
