Soldier Oleksiy Yankovsky, call sign Oleksa, died on July 24, 2022, near the village of Semihirya in Donetsk region. While defending his homeland, he suffered fatal injuries due to enemy tank shelling. The warrior was 28 years old.
Oleksiy was born in the town of Lenine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. He studied at the Faculty of Philosophy at the Tavria National University named after V.I. Vernadsky. Due to his pro-Ukrainian stance, in 2015, he moved with his family to Ternopil region and later settled in Lviv. He continued his studies at the Faculty of Philosophy at Ivan Franko Lviv National University. He was passionate about music, theater, programming, and philosophy. Before the invasion, he worked as an operator at “Ukrposhta.”
With the onset of full-scale war, he voluntarily went to the front, joining the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporizhians. He was a gunner-operator of the BMP-1. Oleksiy sincerely believed in victory over the occupiers and dreamed of liberating his native Crimea, so he bravely and boldly fought for Ukraine.
“Oleksiy was a very enlightened person with a philosophical mind. He was searching for his place in this life, but he didn’t have time to find it. If all such people as he perished in our country, then it will have no future,” noted his father, Serhiy.
Posthumously, the soldier was awarded the Order “For Courage” III degree.
He was buried in the village of Mlynivtsi, Ternopil region.
Oleksiy is survived by his parents, sister, and girlfriend.
