Roman Starodubtsev

July 10, 2023

Junior Sergeant Roman Starodubtsev, call sign “Liquidator,” was killed on July 10, 2023, near the village of Robotino in the Zaporizhzhia region. After a successful assault, he and his comrades went for evacuation of fighters and came under fire. The injuries turned out to be fatal. The warrior was 32 years old.

Roman was born in the village of Lazirky in the Poltava region. He received a profession as a tractor driver at the Lazirky Vocational School. However, he always dreamed of being a military man. After completing his education, he was drafted into military service. Later, he signed a contract. In his free time, he loved playing football and chess. He later demobilized and worked at the “Kernel” company branch in his native village. He later started working abroad for earnings.

In November 2022, he returned from Poland and voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Roman became a serviceman of the 47th separate mechanized brigade “Magura” and was appointed as a squad commander.

“After vocational school, my brother along with Bohdan Zinchenko (a deceased comrade) were both drafted into the army, but in different units. When Roma volunteered for the Armed Forces in 2022, it so happened that they were assigned together with Bohdan to the same unit, and since then, they became comrades. Both of them loved football very much,” said the deceased’s sister Marina.

“A terrible piece of news again came to our village… We were all waiting for good news about the search for our missing fellow villager Roman Oleksiyovych Starodubtsev. But, unfortunately… With each life lost, it feels like a part of our hearts is being torn away… Roman died defending our homeland. For us, he will forever remain a Hero to whom we owe our lives,” noted the fellow villagers of the deceased.

The Hero was buried in his native village.

He is survived by his parents, son, and siblings.
