Senior Sergeant Andriy Levchenko, call sign Lisnyk (Forester), lost his life on February 1, 2023, in battle against occupiers near the town of Vuhledar in Donetsk Oblast. The warrior’s life was cut short by enemy mortar shelling. He was 46 years old.

Andriy was born in the village of Cherevky, Poltava Oblast. He graduated from Lubensky Forestry College, obtaining a degree as a forestry technician. He married and lived with his family in the city of Boryspil, Kyiv Oblast. He worked as an assembler at LLC “Silpo-Food.” He was passionate about the history of Ukrainian Cossacks and spent his free time fishing and collecting mushrooms.

On February 24, 2022, he voluntarily went to the military enlistment office and was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians in the reactive artillery battery. He defended the capital and liberated Kyiv region from the occupiers. In May 2022, he headed to the Donbas region with his unit, defending his homeland in various settlements of Donetsk Oblast. From November 2022, he performed the duties of a platoon commander as part of the assault group of the 4th company.

“A true Ukrainian warrior, a descendant of Ukrainian Cossacks. He was interested in Cossack legends and respected Ukrainian history. Strong, courageous, intelligent, lively, and very responsible. He was a pride for his mother and father, the best dad for his daughters Daria, Anya, and Sofia, the best husband for his wife, a loving brother. He had the call sign ‘Lisnyk’ because he navigated the terrain exceptionally well, which was crucial in military matters,” shared his grieving family.

“He was our brother, a comrade-in-arms, reliable, unwavering, a true man, a warrior, a Cossack, a comrade, a friend,” added his comrades.

The soldier was laid to rest in the town of Novoorzhytske, Poltava Oblast.

Andriy is survived by his parents, brother, wife, and three daughters.
